Course Outline: EN2204 Biogas Technology (2:15 T + 30 P)

Course Description

This course has been designed to provide basic knowledge on biogas technology. The following subtopics will be covered at the end of the course.

Importance of biogas production, biological process involved in anaerobic digestion, suitable raw materials, factors affecting for biogas production, uses of biogas, designing of small biogas digesters, construction of a digester, design parameters of large scale biogas reactors, large scale biogas reactors for electricity generation, uses of digested material etc.

 Objective of the Course

The main objective of this course is to deliver knowledge, skill and practical experience on biogas technology.

 Intended Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course the students will be able to;

  • Explain the biological process involved in anaerobic digestion
  • Explain the sub-processes involved in anaerobic digestion
  • Identify the different types of biogas digesters
  • List the factors affecting for biogas production
  • Design a biogas systems for home gardens
  • Sizing of large scale biogas reactors

  • Describe/demonstrate various application of biogas
